Summer: Mid-June to Early-September

By the time June rolls around, snow is no longer a possibility and sunshine lasts for weeks. All of the roads in the state are open by Memorial Day. The days are long and can be quite hot. Temps often reach into the 90s down in the front range, while the mountains never get above the 80s. The nights are warmer, but can still be a bit cool all summer long, especially at higher elevation. Temps never reach higher than the 50s at the chalet. With the super dry climate, it's almost always a very pleasant heat without any humidity. Being in water is doable, but quite chilly even in the dead of summer. At this elevation, the sun is intense and will cause sun burn all year round, but is especially harsh in the summer. Don't forget sunscreen! Bring plenty of summer clothes with a layer for evenings and don't forget swimwear!
4X4 or AWD is not necessary.

Fall: Mid-September to Mid-November

Fall comes early in Colorado and is probably the most beautiful time of year, with changing colors, snow caps returning to the peaks, and cooler, crisp air. The most magical time in Colorado happens the last 2 weeks of Sept through the first 2 weeks of October when the Aspen leaves turn to yellow and gold. Seeing the Aspen Glow should be on any bucket list. While most days usually remain warm, the nights become much cooler, water is too cold for swimming, and it can snow as early as mid-September. By mid-November, a few snows may have already occurred and winter starts to show itself. Like Spring, Fall weather can be unpredictable. One day it may be in the 70s or 80s and the next day it could snow. Rain is a higher possibility this time of the year, but often doesn't stick around for very long. 4X4 or AWD is not necessary in September or October, but may prove useful later in the season.

Winter: Mid-November to Early-April

Many people are surprised to know just how amazing visiting Colorado in winter can be even if you don't ski or snowboard. Winter is a great time to visit! With 300 days of sunshine a year and a super dry climate, the days are rarely gloomy, frigid, or boring! Colorado is a true winter wonderland with plenty to see and do. While snow is probable most of the season, the heaviest snows are January to March and even April can experience heavy snow. Despite all of the cold, there are still special winter days well into the 70s. Nights are always cold, however, and often drop into the negatives. Bring your hats, gloves, boots, and sense of adventure. 4X4 or AWD is required.

Spring: Mid-April to Early-June

Spring in Colorado is absolutely gorgeous with blooming wildflowers, green landscapes, and plenty of warm days. Weather can be quite unpredictable all the way until the end of May, however. You may experience lots of sunshine and heat during the day, a rainy day or two, or even a heavy Spring snow with accumulation anywhere from a few inches to a 20+. The nights remain cold and earlier in the season, temps often drop below freezing. Bring layers of all kinds and prepare for the possibility of snow. AWD or 4X4 is recommended due to the chance of Spring snows through mid-May, but not required.
